![]() ![]() A nice hiking trail, 34km, goes along the canyon from Dettifoss to Asbyrgi. TIP: there are restrooms at the parking lot, it's all free and the pathways split from here with 0.8km to Dettifoss or 0. Selfoss Waterfall, one of the widest waterfalls in Iceland, is one such wonder, spanning approximately 100 meters this horse-shoe shaped fall possesses power. Dettifoss Waterfall The Dettifoss waterfall is the most powerful waterfall in Europe, 500 cubic meters of water per second plunge over the edge. So if you did not find Dettifoss as amazing, that was the case with me, you may find Selfoss more interesting - they are next to each other and you access the from the same parking lot (at least on the west access parking) - you can do actually both but if you absolutely are time limited to seeing one I say go for this one Selfoss all the way!ĭettifoss is "just" a big powerful "flat drop" versus Selfoss being a series of smaller drops that you can see in their entirety - I found the experience much more relaxing and appealing to the eye - I would say neither is a must, probably on the bottom of the list we have visited during 10 days in Iceland but then again in this area of the country there aren't that many to access "easily" other than Godafoss.
